Me: That's a sock. Can you say sock?
Daniel: Mac.Me: Sock. Ssssock.
Daniel: Mac!
Me: Sock!
Daniel: *stuffs sock into Mama's mouth*
I guess we'll work on that one later.

All Done!
Daniel has decided it's time to start talking. His first word was 'book.' Not surprising given his love of turning pages. Then he realized that the door to his bedroom was a giant book. He would crawl up, swing it back and forth, and shout "Boot! Boot!" (He's still working on the 'k' sound.) Wanting to promote accuracy I would tell him, "That's a door. Door." And so we had our second word.
Other words are "Mama", "Dadadadadada", "good" (the second half -"morning"- is implied), and the all-time favorite: "Dum! Ah Dum!" We sit him up in his highchair and he eats two bites of oatmeal. "Ah Dum!" Less than a minute after I lay him down for a nap. "Dum! Dum!" In the middle of a diaper change as he rolls over and crawls away buck naked, when I'm trying to wipe his face after lunch, when we're in a store: "Dum! Dum! Ah Dum!!!" And all the while I'm hearing that deep announcer voice in my head- "If you liked 'Ah Dum!' you're going to LOVE 'no!'" Oh the things I have to look forward to.
And now I must go because I've been invited to an exclusive dance party by the kitchen gate. I leave you with a picture of Daniel once again mistaking something for a book. And this time I have no intention of correcting him.
